About the Author

Muriel Miura, best-selling author of local cookbooks, graduated from the University of Hawai‘i’s home economics program and earned her graduate degrees in home economics education from the University of Hawai‘i, Mānoa, and Columbia University of New York City.

Muriel may be most recognized for her nationally televised cooking shows from the 1970s, Cook Japanese Hawaiian Style and The New World of Cooking with Muriel. Comfortable with all types of cuisines, Muriel is known to add a personal touch of Hawai‘i to her foods. Muriel has written more than twenty cookbooks, including Japanese Cooking–Hawai‘i Style, Hawai‘i Cooks with Spam®, Hawai‘i’s Party Food, What Hawai‘i Likes to Eat, What Hawai‘i Likes to Eat Hana Hou, Cookies from Hawai‘i’s Kitchen and Hawai‘i Cooks and Saves and served as co-editor of the Hawai‘i Cooks Series—A Portuguese Kitchen, A Korean Kitchen, An Okinawan Kitchen, A Chinese Kitchen, and A Filipino Kitchen.

A Honolulu-born kama‘āina, Muriel lives with her husband in Honolulu and spends a part of the year with her daughter and her family on the mainland. She is also involved with a number of community service projects in her spare time since her retirement from The Gas Company.
