For over thirty years, Mutual Publishing has supported Hawaii writers and artists to achieve the goal of publishing their work.  Receiving and reviewing manuscripts is a vital part of Mutual’s publishing process and Mutual is always looking for new titles, particularly the new or unusual.

Mutual considers submissions of quality manuscripts in all genres where the subject matter is related to Hawaii and has local interest. Please do not submit manuscripts on topics unrelated to the Hawaiian Islands or that have little or no Hawaii content.

Our Submission Guidelines:

1) All inquiries and/or proposals should be via mail or email (address below) only. Please, no telephone calls.

2) Send an outline or summary with the first chapter only and copies of any illustrative material. Do not send the entire manuscript if over 50 pages.  Be sure to include an author bio telling us about yourself, how you came to write the book, your credentials and a list of any previously published works.  Also tell us the potential readership for the book: who is the reader; what trends are covered by the subject matter of the book; what are similar titles out there; how does your book differ.

3) We will try to send a note acknowledging receipt of manuscript. Sometimes the volume is overwhelming and this cannot be done. Usually we will try to get back to you within a month indicating our interest and if you should send the manuscript in its entirety. 

It is not always possible to indicate reasons for rejection  as we review over 100 manuscripts a year. Usually it is because we don’t think enough copies can be sold.

4) Be sure to indicate if it’s a multiple submission.

5) Artwork/Manuscripts are not kept. If you prefer their return, please provide a self addressed stamped envelope. Never send the original, particularly if illustrative work.
